Joint Committees

The joint committees between the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry and several ministries and authorities are considered a channel of communication and cooperation between the Chamber and the government, through which many visions, ideas and proposals that serve the economic activity movement are crystallized. These committees are also a mechanism through which the views and problems of the sectors are communicated to the relevant authorities for suggest and solutions.

 

According to Article (36) of the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry’s Law promulgated by Decree Law (48) of 2012, which stipulates: “The Board of Directors shall form, from the members of the Chamber and those with experience deemed useful, permanent and temporary committees to undertake some tasks. It is also permissible to form joint committees with ministries, agencies, and governmental institutions to discuss issues of common interest.” Accordingly, in the “30” session of the Board of Directors, the following committees were formed:

2.    Shura Council

3.    Ministry of Industry and Commerce

4.    Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affaires and Waqf

5.    Ministry of Works

6.    Ministry of Tourism

7.    Labour Fund “Tamkeen”

8.    Ministry of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture

 

Joint Committees’ Scope of Work:

  • The committees are responsible for discussing topics and issues of interest to the commercial and industrial sectors, and communicating the view of the private sector to the decision makers in the concerned official authorities. Among the most important topics of concern to the Chamber in the joint committees are the following:
  • Making proposals regarding the contribution of the private sector to the country’s economic development strategy, which is aligned to the directives of the leadership regarding the future of the national economy, in line with the Economic Vision 2030 in various fields to keep abreast of the rapid and successive regional and international economic developments.
  • Enhancing Bahrain's reputation and the prestigious standing at the regional and global levels in the economic, commercial and financial fields.
  • Increasing the role and effectiveness of the private sector in facilitating economic development in order to exploit the potentials of the sector in building a better future for the economy and the country.
  • Reinstating the role of the private sector by enhancing its contribution in shaping economic decisions and legislation related to the development and revitalization of the economic situation in the country in the commercial, industrial and economic fields.
  • Considering the opinion of the Chamber, as a representative of the private sector, prior to endorsing all commercial and industrial laws and regulations.
  • Addressing issues of concern to the private sector, and eliminating obstacles an challenges curbing Bahraini business owners
