MANAMA: The Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) may establish a university for the private sector.
BCCI chairman Dr Essam Fakhro also revealed plans to set up a specialised training centre catering to the needs of the private sector.
He unveiled the schemes and programmes as he attended talks in Singapore. The two sides focused particularly on promoting co-op-eration in higher education and technical training.
The BCCI delegation met the National University of Singapore president James Tai and the PSB Academy chief executive Dr Steve Lai and discussed co-operation.
"The BCCI has a keen interest in acquiring educational and academic expertise for Bahrainis to meet real labour market needs", Dr Fakhro said.
He also stressed the importance of promoting national human resources and narrowing the gap between knowledge, skills and expertise.
The delegation will today hold a series of meetings with officials representing the Singapore Business Federation.
It will stage a presentation detailing business opportunities and incentive packages for investors in Bahrain.
The team also includes BCCI first deputy chairman Ibrahim Zainal, board members Adel Al Safar and Khalid Al Amin, Khalid Abdulrahman Almoayyed, Khalid Rashid Al Zayani, chief executive Ibrahim Ahmed Allanjawi and Economic Development Board chief executive for operations Kamal Ahmed.
